چکیده
Results are presented oj @ight tests made to determine the <feet oj jlap de$ection on the lateral control characteristics of a modi$ed Brewster F2A-2 airplane equipped with partial-spa-n narrow-chord ailerons on the trailing edge oj a full-span NACA slotted -flap. The inrestiga~ion included determination of the rolling and yawing characteristics oj the airplane in abrupt aileron rolls with the slotted $ap at carious wftings ranging from (la to abouf @O. The results shorted that i’he e~ectireness of the ailerons was greatly reduced at $ap de$ection.s grea[er than about 2’0°. For .tiap defections up to about 90°, the aileron e$ectirene.ss UYLS about the same as with jlaps retracted, but the adr.erse yawing reloci@ dereloped in the abrupt aileron rolls was someu’hat increased. This increase in the adwrse yawing r~locity, lLo-LOerer, was not considered objec~ionable by the pilot.

Computational Investigation of Wings with Miniature Trailing Edge Control Surfaces
Miniature trailing edge effectors (MiTEs) are small flaps (typically 1% to 5% chord) actuated with deflection angles near 90 degrees. The small size, combined with little required power and good control authority enables the device to be used for both high bandwidth control and conventional attitude control. Numerous experiments and computational simulations have been conducted for two dimensio...
متن کاملRotor Wake/Fixed Wing Interactions with Flap Deflection
The basic features in the interaction of a rotor wake with a wing in low-speed forward flight are studied using low-speed wind tunnel experiments. The configuration captures several of the aerodynamic interactions in the tiltrotor transition phase, and during wake/empennage interactions. Previous work showed that the pressure field on the wing surface below the rotor is dominated by n-per-rev "...

متن کاملMorphing Trailing Edge Flap for High Lift Wing
This paper presents the study conducted to design and analyze a morphing trailing edge flap structure for a large aircraft wing. The rear part of the trailing edge flap was modified to be integrated with a set of internal actuation mechanisms distributed along the span of the flap. Additional changes to the conventional flap structure were implemented, such as an open sliding trailing edge and ...
متن کاملPlunging Airfoil Load Characteristics Equipped with Gurney Flap
Numerous experiments have been conducted on plunging Eppler 361 airfoil in a subsonic wind tunnel. The experimental tests involved measuring the surface pressure distribution over the airfoil at Re=1.5×105. The airfoil was equipped with Gurney flap(heights of 2.6, 3.3 and 5% chord) and plunged at 6cm amplitude. The unsteady aerodynamic loads were calculated from the surface pressure measurement...
